Your skin barrier is your skin’s first line of defence — and when it’s compromised, almost everything else you do for your skin becomes harder to achieve.
## What the skin barrier actually does
The outermost layer of your skin, often called the moisture barrier, is made up of skin cells held together by lipids (fats). Think of it like a brick wall: the cells are the bricks, and the lipids are the mortar holding everything together. When that wall is intact, it keeps moisture in and irritants, bacteria, and pollutants out.
## Signs your barrier is compromised
If your skin feels tight, looks dull, reacts to products that never used to bother you, or feels persistently dry no matter how much you moisturise, your barrier may need repair rather than more active ingredients.
## How we approach barrier repair at Mobecca
Our Barrier Repair Facial is specifically designed for this — we slow everything down, remove anything that could further irritate compromised skin, and focus purely on rebuilding and soothing. If your skin has felt ‘off’ for a while despite a good routine, this is usually the first thing we check.
If you’re not sure whether your skin needs barrier repair or a different treatment, book a consultation and we’ll assess it properly before recommending anything.
